Staying flexible with long-term goals

goal setting self awareness Oct 07, 2022

When I created Connect. Flow. Grow., it was the same, yet different than it is now. Goals and plans we set for ourselves change.

When I founded CFG, I had just finished my yoga teacher training and I thought my business would be heavily focused on the yoga side of things - I mean why else did I pay $3k and spend all my weekends for 3 months with 20 other souls while maintaining a full time job and raising 3 kids?

I also envisioned my work being heavily family based: helping parents to stress-proof their children, saving parents from the headaches of learning those lessons later in life.

While I am still focusing on stress and teaching people about what happens when their stress response system is activated, I have shifted to working with adults (mostly). I use my yoga teacher training a lot, but in ways I hadn’t imagined. Yoga teacher training has benefited me in many other ways: friendships, social connections, healing, developing my teaching style, and business opportunities. I am grateful for all of it, and it was possible because I adapted along the way.

Had I held on tightly to my original plan I would have missed this opportunity, and I am not sure where my business would be.

With my therapy clients I often share this or similar stories because it is helpful to set long term goals. It gives you direction. But it's not uncommon for the goal to be adjusted as we evolve and grow. So set your long term goals, and then allow them to unfold, adapting along the way.
