New Year Goal Setting
Jan 05, 2021If you are starting fresh (you don’t have goals to review from the year that just ended) jump to "Then What?" below. Otherwise, do this step first:
Review last year! Mine that bad boy for all the gold it has for you! I would bet money you did not end the year as the same person who started it. So take note of how that transformation occurred.
My basic questions are:

What did I accomplish this year?

Where did I struggle?

What did I learn?
-
What, if anything, do I need to let go of?

What do I want to take into the new year?
Then what? I start looking at the year ahead. I am a newbie to Vision Boards, but the last couple years I’ve started there - it helps me dream, and connect to how I want the year to feel and look. That leads me into the logical planning part of it - I write down my goals for the year and plan backwards. Basically, I break a larger goal ALL THE WAY DOWN into:
- Yearly goal
- Quarterly objectives
- Monthly action items
- Weekly tasks
- Daily to-dos (and I am still old school - I write it out and check it off)
What can I say? Ya girl needs structure.
Not all my goals work that way.
Sometimes I am a little more “free” with my goals; these are more directional type goals - A target I aim for, but leave myself wiggle room. A prime example: my meditation practice (it varies based on where I am at in life and what I need). Last year I added in 15 minutes of meditation every morning as good “mental hygiene.” There was no planning backward for me. This type of goal is more directional - I am doing my best to do that as much as possible.
Another option is to build up to it. Start with 3-5 minutes 3 times per week, then do it daily, then jump to 7-10 minutes daily, then to 15.
